Question Confused about Hide feature

It is the first time that I want to use the Hide feature and in a test post I have selected "Require Likes to see content", but the content is always visible to guest and other members.
So I came here and I have seen that you must add a bbcode "hide" around the text to hide... so,

is it true that I must use hide tags to hide content?

or by selecting "Require Likes to see content" all the post should be hidden automatically without using hide tag?

You must use hide tags in conjunction with the "Require Likes to see content".
