Question displaying rewrite images

I have a custom rewrite that rewrites the image urls from facebook so that thumbnails display as full size images in postbits.

The problem I have is that in the slideshow on forumhome they are reverting to their normal thumbnails. You can see here:

Detroit Coral Farm Update -, The images are rewritten to be full size pics. But in the slideshow on forumhome, they are not looking so good.

How can I get that rewrite to work with those image links in the slideshow?

The only way that can be solved is for you to create a mod / have a mod created that actually overwrites the post content with the full image URL.

For reference, it'd be best to scan the post for FB photos and replace them pre-insert.

I was afraid of that.

How does vbslider get/store its images? One of the reasons I'm asking, is I removed an attachment from a post and it still was displaying in the slideshow. I tried to repair cache (vbslider-->Repair Cache) and it still displayed the old image. How does an edited first image get updated in the slider?

Since it's an external image, vBSlider will fetch it and store it locally. It'll do that by scanning the post in the database either for the special BBCode, the first image attachment or the first tag (depending on the instance settings).

You can find it in the /dbtech/vbslider/images/externalimages directory - it should be named [B]thread-xxxx[/B] (where xxxx is the Thread ID).

The instance I was referring to was actually already stored locally, but had unattached it to the post during a post edit. Does it make copies of all images and store them in that directory (even ones already stored locally)?

And I guess, the second part is how does one get it to update the image if the image is changed...manually delete from the /dbtech/vbslider/images/externalimages directory?

Sorry, I don't understand the first question

You wouldn't delete the whole directory just to get rid of one file, just find the thread-xxxx file and delete that

Does vbslider put an copy of both remotely and locally hosted images in its directory or just the remotely hosted ones?

Second question...if a post is edited and the first image is changed, how does the slider update the image? (Or, doesn't it?)

Just remotely hosted images.

If the picture changes, and it's a remotely hosted image, it will not change in the Slider. There's no way to work around that without completely losing all the numerous benefits (not least of all, performance) accompanied by fetching remotely hosted images unfortunately

I had changed a locally hosted attached image and it didn't update in the slider. From what you are saying that it should have changed on its own (being locally hosted)?

Edited the post removed the attachment from the post (using manage attachments). I think I then linked to an external image instead.

After doing some testing, combined with the info you already posted about the directory and not being able to automatically update a new external image, I think it I've got a better understanding of how it works now.

The only thing that might be better is if, when there is an attachment and an external link that it takes the attachment first rather than the external image. (maybe an option to chose how it works per instance in a future update).
