Question Guest Full Page Caching - Any potential issues when long setting used (60 minutes)?

The only downside would be that stuff like new threads etc would not show up until the cache expired or was flushed via some other means, AFAIK :)

You probably could, but it's not something we support and we can unfortunately not assist with customisations of such a huge nature :(

That would go against the purpose of caching for guests, so unfortunately not, no :(

The only problem with your request is that it would completely undermine the reason why GFPC was created in the first place - to turn dynamic content into static content but (by default) not let it go too stale.

I don't think the slight modification I'm proposing would in any way go against the idea behind GFPC. The vast majority of guests would still be served fully-cached pages. I'm only suggesting that the GFPC feature doesn't simply serve static pages to anyone who is not logged in, but instead it should check if their browser has a cookie from an earlier visit. If it does, the guest should be served a not-fully cached page. If a cookie is not present, it should be treated as a first time visitor, and s/he should be served fully-cached pages.
Hi Marvin,

The only problem with that idea is you would only ever receive the benefit of caching on the very first page a guest landed on.

There is no way to check when a cookie was generated. What this means in practice is a new guest would be served cached content on his first page, but any page he visits after that would be completely uncached, just like for a registered user.

This would essentially make the guest caching feature useless since it would only apply on the very first page a guest landed on. Unless your site has an astoundingly high bounce rate, it would save very few queries.

With that being said, if you submit it as a feature request we will look into it for the next version assuming it wouldn't be too time intensive.
