I am really looking for a reason to purchase the Pro version of vbOptimise, so I have installed the Lite version to see if I notice any performance enhancements.

When first installing, it was set for Filecaching. Now, my host has installed xCache. I have edited my config file to go for xcache, but how do I check if it is working? I've checked the Resource Statistics page and I haven't seen any increase in the graph since I switched to xCache. Do the stats update live or periodically?

Also, in config.php I have set this: $config['Datastore']['prefix'] = 'abcd';

However, in Main Settings>Cache Prefix, there is vbo_

Are these two values related in any way? Should they be the same or doesn't it matter?

How can I check that xCache/vbOptimise is actually running?

(Note: My admincp folder has been modified for security reasons. I copied the files across as recommended in a previous post.)

Thanks,

Jon

Periodically, I believe every 10 minutes.

I don't think it matters, but to be safe I'd set them both to the same value :)

You can use the System Test to see if there's any issues with it :)

I am not allowed to flush the cache, so I am on to my host to get me the credentials to do that. Is this why I cannot change any settings? When I try to turn xcache to something else or turn it off, I must get a white screen.

Also, I don't see any difference in the amount of RAM I am using on my VPS, despite the plugin being active and supposedly caching stuff. CPU usage seems similar too. I was expecting some changes but nothing noticeable. :S

The fact that your host enabled authentication and didn't provide you with the password is probably why - vBO wouldn't be able to store anything in the cache either.

And yeah, that is indeed the cause of the white screen :)

In my phpinfo.php file, it says this:

Opcode Cache: disabled

Should it be set to enabled or doesn't it make any difference?

I'm not entirely sure what the XCache php info entries look like, you should contact your host and ask them to configure and test it to ensure it's able to store data correctly.

I've attached a couple of test scripts for XCache - run it in order of 1 and 2. If the output of the 2nd script says "Working!" then it's, well, working :p

I tried those scripts both in my root and forums directory. I got nothing! However, the Resource Statistics graph goes up each minute. So working or not working? lol

I manged to flush the cache and your script shows its working now. But under the test section Fetch Cache, I get Your Opcache Operator extension is functioning, however it is unable to store data. Please check your extension configuration.

Any ideas?

You'll need to install this somewhere inside your web root folder: InstallAdministration (host should be able to assist with this if you are having issues) and observe whether the cache is ever full.

It sounds like your XCache may need to have its available storage boosted, but that page will tell you :)

In actual fact, my host enabled Opcode Cache in the settings and the System Test works fine now without errors. I presume I can now try and work out if it is indeed faster than before or not.
