Question Section pages skipped - article shown instead

Hi

We have some CMS sections in our site that work as expected - the section page displays under the vB SEO Alias (eg - 11v11 - Premier League) and others where the section page is not displayed, but the user is redirected to one of the articles that the section page should be displaying (eg - 11v11 - Football Internationals - any of the confederation links - eg AFC link should go to /afc/ and show a section page.

I can't see any differences between the sections or articles as configured in vb admin or CMS.

I notice that our CMS URLs are using the Custom setting in DBSEO set to show [section_title] so I presume this is why the cV SEO Alias is not being used. But that doesn't explain why the section page is being skipped.

So I have two questions please:

1/ Is it possible to change the settings to that section pages use the vB SEO Alias value in the URL? (Doesn't matter if not really.)

2/ Do you have any idea why some section pages are being skipped? (Much more important!)

Thanks very much for any help you can provide!

Cheerio, Mike

Please try changing the URLs to include the section ID and let me know if this resolves the issue :)

Thanks.

I haven't tried this yet - but I have realised the problem occurs with DBSEO turned off, so it probably isn't DBSEO problem!

Thanks again, mike

Hi

Previously I forgot to remove the DBSEO htaccess rules - so I think I need to try your suggestion after all.

Can you clarify please. Are you suggesting that I add the section ID to the URL in the DBSEO config for section URLs or somewhere else?

And can you confirm (or deny!) please - should the SEL Alias specified for section in vBCMS work with DBSEO installed?

FYI - I seem to have two problems - skipping of section pages (some sections ) and non-use of the SEO alias (all sections I think). It may be noteworthy that the links which get redirected are those to the SEO Alias version of the URL - but one of them doesn't get redirected, which seems really odd.

Thanks very much, Mike

Are you suggesting that I add the section ID to the URL in the DBSEO config for section URLs
Correct. Also, if you have conflicting URL formats, you may need to add other identifying information. For instance, if your Section URL is /[section_title]/ and your Article URL is /[article_title]/, this will not work.

You will need to ensure that all URL formats are unique, e.g. use something like /section[section_id]-[section_title]/ and /article[article_id]-[article_title]/ or something to that effect. The actual variable replacements will vary and is explained in the settings pane.

should the SEL Alias specified for section in vBCMS work with DBSEO installed?
DBSEO will prioritise its own SEO title. If that fails for whatever reason, it'll fallback to the SEO'd URL specified in vB.

Thanks.

It is a shame that the vB SEO ALias cannot be used as it could be with vBSEO. It is quite a useful feature as sometimes title are too long, or better represented by a shorter version (eg - "ocf" rather than "oceania confederation of football").

Since you are getting data from the VB db anyway, why not make the SEO Alias available to the DBSEO config too - as it is for the other properties?

If you re-post that as a feature request, we can take it into consideration for future versions :)
