One thing I would love to see implemented is some sort of Optimization of the Thread/Forum Read Marking Type setting within vBulletin. This is located in the AdminCP > Settings > Options > General Settings section. I like how it works when I set it to Database (automatic forum marking), but any time I do this it seems like my server usage doubles. If you could implement a way to make this run with all the features on but without the server load, I'm sure many people would welcome it.

I'm not sure if that's possible, tbh. The database marking sends 1 extra query every time you visit a thread, to mark it and any posts on that page read. I'm not sure how else we would be able to store that information without the risk of data loss...

Ouch! I was hoping you would say something like "We could use an alternative system that uses files instead of the database" X_X

What I really don't get, though, is how the same functionality was in phpbb and never caused this much server load.

Have you any graphs that prove a sustained higher server load while using that functionality? Because afaik, no other site has reported as much as 2x the load.

It's probably normal for a spike of 2x load while the feature is first turned on, and your users are reading threads that, for all the system knows, are all new. But once things "settle down" I suspect the load might go down.
