It's annoying when someone always uses the "quote" option to reply to a thread - especially if it's a long post that they're quoting. They either do this purely because they're lazy, or because they want to make it clear to whom they're responding which means that quoting a giant post really isn't necessary (just quoting a snippet of it would do). This is one argument for a truncated post mod.
Moreover, it would really help those of us that use DBTech Live Feed in the sideblock on the forum home page. When un-truncated posts show up in the Live Feed sideblock, it either makes the sideblock really long, or, if the quoted posts themselves are extra long, then it messes up the quote formatting in the sideblock (if the quoted post contains more characters than the sideblock is allowed to have, then the "/quote" tag doesn't render). Truncated posts would resolve these issues.
There's a mod on vb.org for this, but it hasn't been updated in a while. And it uses jquery to allow clicking on a link to reveal the portion that was truncated. This is frankly more complicated than it needs to be. Just a simple 'maximum characters before truncation' option for quoted posts would suffice nicely.
Truncated posts would just make for a better forum experience all around, but especially when used in conjunction with Live Feed.
Thanks for your consideration.
