Tried a few times to upgrade, after upgrade it just sits at Loading, I had to revert the machine each time to get it back to normal.

Hmmm... Could you PM me with an FTP account and an AdminCP account? If so I should be able to look into it ASAP (I'm currently a bit swamped + dealing with a nasty cold) - feel free to use 5.4.8 in the meantime and I'll re-upgrade when I'm looking into it
