Users are reporting chat being sluggish with IE. I noticed when I updated chat to the most recent last weekend that the tabs also stopped working on mobile devices. Both of these were issues that were resolved in previous versions (6.01-.02). I can't help but wonder if maybe some old code got slipped in the latest download version.

I'm running 6.0.3.

Those were never reported issues so they were never attempted to be resolved :)

I've found that having the IE7 header enabled makes the browser freeze every <refresh rate> seconds - turning that off solved the issue.

Sadly mobile browsers are not on our list of supported browsers and it is also impossible for me to debug anything on mobile browsers :(

I believe it is this thread I am referring to: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/f29/chat-not-loading-all-ie-browser-6092/

I just confirmed the shoutbox is running painfully slow on IE.

It appears I am getting this error:

Webpage error details

What were you doing when you received that error? IE doesn't use correct line numbers in their errors, so it is impossible for me to guess what happened based on that error message.

Its just an error that is listed when I load the page.

Here is a screen shot of the popup I get:

When I click yes or no, I get an error that looks like this in the IE developer tools:

Operation aborted
jquery.min.js, line 3 character 14445

I did check the chat here on dbtech and don't get the same error... maybe its just the vb3.8 version?

Unfortunately I don't have access to a Windows XP computer so I can't reproduce this :(

That error from IE is also 100% useless as it doesn't tell me where in my script the issue is.

Sorry, but for the time being it looks like this is impossible to fix :(

Do you have a vb3.8 test forum? I could try that with IE from here to at least determine if it is unique to my site or a vb3.8 version.

Ultimately, though I don't think not supporting IE is an option. Too many users still use it to not have it working properly. You guys might have to break down and get a windows box.

Crap my work has your site blocked...got another one by any chance?

Doesn't IE 9 work on Vista or whatever?

We tested on IE9 on our 3.8 site that we linked you to, got feedback from all of the staff on there to ensure it was ok for them as well (3 using IE9). At one point there was an issue, but that was resolved when IE7 compatibility mode was turned off for the forum - have you tried that?

I just turned it off and now I am not getting the popup error with IE7 turned off. :)

However, chat is still pretty slow and getting this error:

Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; InfoPath.1; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E)

That error message line is still wrong. Is there a way you can make it show you exactly what's on the line mentioned in the error?

Yes I am on IE8 here...the members reporting an issue to me are on IE9.

If someone knows how to get Fillip H. what he needs, let me know and I can get it. I only see that one error...and actually that is on my default skin. My custom skin isn't registering that error now. But is still sluggish....easily 4 times slower than firefox and chrome.

In case others run into similar issues:

The IE-specific errors were caused by the "jQt Suite" product and the "AdiInviter" products. Disabling both these products left the page showing zero errors :)
