Give Full website to members

I would like to request a new modification. The ability to give members the right to create a Full Website directly on our site.

Why? Because so many members become bored and think they can create their own site and because of this they spend less time on your site and sometimes never come back again.

This will give members something extra to do on your site. They will have their very own site which they can fully manage.
It will benefit site owners because it's giving you more content to be indexed into google. Plus you will be able to control what is and what is not allowed and you would be able to place ads on their pages giving you more revenue etc.

First: You would have a link in your navbar going to: domain.com/forums/sites/
On this page it would display links going to the latest created sites, random sites, featured sites, and maybe an info bar. Plus a link saying "Create New Site" (or Edit Site if user has already created one).

Second: Once the user has created their site, it would be accessed from a link like domain.com/forums/sites/username
They would be able to control the colors, title, content, menu, etc. for their page. they would be able to have unlimited pages, etc. They would be able to set each page to either active or inactive. Inactive pages would show up as under construction. There would also be a counter in the footer of each page so they know how many page views their site gets (user controls if they want this or not)

Lastly: Everything would be usergroup controlled through the admincp. Like options to moderate certain usergroups sites before they show up and who can create sites or not etc. The admin would be able to control where ads show up for certain usergroup created pages.

You could even integrate the shoutbox into their pages and other parts of VB.

I suppose lots more could be done, but this is all I have thought of for now. I'd love to hear what others think and hopefully some more suggestions will come in to make this idea grow.

You can actually do most of this with the Blogs already, minus the /username part. You can allow members to create Pages along with their blog. (in the usergroup/blog settings!) So they could make page content and stuff. All it would be missing is a counter or better blog customization controls.

With the right modifications, the blog system could easily look like a webpage addition!

Yeah I saw vbsites yesterday, But i'm sure D-B could do it way better.

Anyway, thought I would throw the idea out there. I suppose the blogs is a valid point, but in its current state it is not really going to work to entice members that much.

You asked for feedback on the idea so here ya go.

For me, it's not something I would want. Because of that, I can't claim the idea good, or bad. However I think that for the most part, people get their fix of such things from mySpace and whatever other social networking sites. So if your site is based on Social networking, then I could see a use for this type of mod. Whether or not that's a big enough market for DBT to go after, I don't know. But to me, it seems like a niche market. I've also found that usually what I think is a good idea, requires people to make it happen. People want things done for them unfortunately from what I've seen. Anytime people need to do something to make something cool happen, they slack off. hehe So in the end, I dunno... like I said, if you need it, I'd go for it. But if you don't have people blogging now, do you think this would change it? If you do, maybe it'd help, I dunno.

I quite like the idea, but i doubt it's something viable for us to go after.

To do it properly would be a pretty large undertaking, and i'm just not sure the market is there compared to say, something like an RPG.

it's a shame cause I think something like this is a good idea since the death of places like Geocities and such, and I think it'd be a big feature on some websites, but i just don't see us having the time to do it justice
