Pending Shipping by variant

Is there a way to set shipping options by variation vs product? We have one product where one variation of the item we want free shipping but for the other variation, we need to charge shipping due to weight.

Unfortunately this is not possible, sorry. If the items are that drastically different, I would recommend using a separate product instead.

The products are identical. The scenario was to sell individual and another variant that was bulk quantity. When the bulk variant is selected, the customer would get 100 items at a discounted price, but we would need to consider shipping slightly different due to it moving to freight.

Ah, that's not the use case variations was designed for - it was designed more for things like size and colour variants for t-shirts, for example.

I'm honestly not sure how that could be resolved, as it would be a major redesign to change shipping to work against variations.

Understood -- assuming this scenario was possible with dbecommerce, would shipping defined for each variant be the right approach or if you were implementing it, would you consider a different approach?

While I understand this is a big ask and not something that will change soon, I figured it doesn't hurt to toss it into the backlog of suggestions. And if it is listed as a feature suggestion, at least it would align with your thoughts on how you would see the product evolve.
