Bug Post links not working

When DBSEO is installed, post links do not work frequently. If I toggle DBSEO off, the post links work. It appears this relates to the number of posts per page a user us set up with. I've mentioned this before but perhaps didn't explain it clearly enough.

See post 229 in this thread. [Jungian Cognitive Functions] Ni - What the hell is it? - Page 3

I just inserted a link to post #208 of the same thread.

When I use my own ID which is set up for 100 posts per page, clicking on the link to post #208 works perfectly fine. Now when I log on with another ID that is set up for 10 posts per page, clicking on that link doesn't take me to post #208. It takes me to the top of page 3 - showing post #21.

Then, I turned SEO off. I inserted a link to post #213 into post #308. The link works perfectly fine with both accounts - the one set up for 10 posts per page and the one with 100 posts per page.

The forum members have been complaining about this for quite a long time and I've narrowed it down to the SEO plugin. The problem happens when it is installed and doesn't happen when it is disabled. It's a real problem because what it means is the users can't ever trust post links to work which is a pretty significant piece of functionality in VBulletin.

Thanks for the quick response. That is exactly what I'm doing though. I'm using the #number link in the upper corner of the post - in both examples I just provided.

But the link worked correctly when I copied it off your forum 45 seconds before posting that post, and the SEO mod is still enabled.

When you copy the link, if you put it in the address bar and let DBSEO redirect to the correct page for the viewing user, THEN copy/paste it and put it in a post, it will only work for a user with the same posts per page as you.

If you copy paste it as is, it will work correctly as it did in my previous post :)

Hm. I will try this and communicate to the forum members. That extra step isn't intuitive.

It seems that I still haven't figured out how to communicate how to address this with my forum members. Here is what I told them. Can you tell me what I might be explaining that is inaccurate?

I think some of you may be familiar with a problem. You click on the link to a post but it doesn't take you there. It takes you somewhere else in the same thread. '

The purpose of this post is is to identify the cause of the problem and the correct way to obtain post links so this doesn't happen anymore. When we installed some SEO software last spring, it changed the way that urls were rewritten on the site which is better for search engines. However this change introduced a change in how we can link posts. The following are what not to do and what to do to get this to work.

DON"T DO IT THIS WAY - Click on the number and when the post rfreshes copy the url at the top of the page

When you copy links to the post, some of us in the past have clicked on the #xxx number in the upper right hand corner of a post. Then we have copied the URL at the top of the page and then pasted that in to the post where we wanted to link to that post. The problem is that this does not work reliably anymore. It will work if the person who clicks on the embedded post link has the same number of posts per page as you. Since we all have a lot of variation on this, we should NOT USE THIS METHOD ANYMORE TO CREATE POST LINKS.

DO IT THIS WAY - Use the Permalink

There is another process which is simple and actually faster. Float (don't click) your curser over the #xxx post that you want to create a link to, then you can use your browser software to copy that link. So for me when I use chrome, I put the curser over that number - say post #385 there will be a url that pops up on your screen. You can use your browser software to copy that link which pops up for you. I use a Mac and do Control Click and select "Copy Link Address'. This is the "permalink" for the post. I am told this should always work.

It sounds to me like it would be easier to say "right click" than "There is another process which is simple and actually faster. Float (don't click) your curser over the #xxx post that you want to create a link to, then you can use your browser software to copy that link. So for me when I use chrome, I put the curser over that number - say post #385 there will be a url that pops up on your screen.
