Legacy Integrated Comments System

Another thing that came out of my original post, but it would be nice if there was a way to integrate vbulletin's normal thread system with vbdownloads. Instead of vbdownloads' native comments system it would be nice to do something a bit more like how vbulletin.org is set up, where the file information stays at the top of each page, but below it is a regular thread that can be used for support, feature requests, can be searched to see if people in the past have had problems, etc etc. They can also be subscribed to or marked as installed so that users are updated whenever that file is updated or someone else posts in the thread. I already suggested the file updates in the Favorites Notifications I posted a few minutes ago, but the rest would be awesome. If this gets integrated, it would also be nice if the automatically generated posts up until that point could be integrated into existing files, where applicable.

What you are talking about is tossing out most of the downloads system and doing everything through threads with a pretty front end. I'll mark it as under consideration but I'm not sure Cosmic would want to go that way with it.

Hmm.... that wasn't my intention, because I prefer having all the files in a separate database than the forums. I actually suggested the integration because I thought it would go over better than "Please completely revamp and buff up your comments system." I'm definitely trying to give my input without coming off as rude in any way, I just feel that the comments system as it is now is... well, pretty lacking.

Sounds to me like it'd be much easier to revamp the comments system itself - though i'd have to discuss it with Dylan to be sure. I dislike the idea o integrating it with threads etc though to be honest. Improving the comments section is certainly something that can be looked at though.

Either way has the preferred end result for me. Here are the things I just feel are really necessary:
1-Either nested or quote-able responses to comments, especially in cases where support is being given.
2-The ability to search through the comments on a file (again, in case support is being given for a file)
3-Some kind of marker and notification whenever files are uploaded/updated.

For the time being, I'm using the auto-generated threads to achieve this, but I'd love to have it not be separate from the actual file system.
